Will the Norwegian government pass the revised property tax reform before summer 2026?
The Norwegian government (Støre-regjeringen) is pushing a controversial reform to how residential property is taxed (eiendomsskatt). The proposed changes would update SSB's property value calculations, potentially increasing tax bills for homeowners in major cities like Oslo, Bergen, and Trondheim. The reform is part of a broader effort to make the tax system more progressive. FrP and Høyre strongly oppose the changes, calling it a 'hidden tax hike on ordinary Norwegians.' Several Labour backbenchers have also expressed concern. The reform needs a Storting majority to pass, and coalition partner Senterpartiet is split on the issue. Resolves YES if the Storting passes the reform before July 1, 2026.
